Despite the vast destruction the country experienced during World War II, it seems like Poland managed to preserve much of its cultural wealth and Krakow is a good example of that.
The one place in Poland we will always remember is Auschwitz . It is hard to find the right words to describe the feeling of being there; it almost felt wrong standing in the spot where the biggest genocide ever took place.
When you visit a site of such a horrific event, you can’t help but be touched by it in some way. Not sure we understand why we are drawn to ‘dark tourism’ sites – I have a feeling it’s just human nature – but as long as we continue to treat them with respect, and learn something from them, they are definitely worth a visit.
